It is a complete standalone, so it can be enjoyed completely on its own. Hard Hitter is the second book in the Brooklyn Bruisers series. I have listened to this audiobook multiple times, it’s seriously good. Their voices are perfect for the characters. Nicol Zanzarella and Rock Engle did an amazing job portraying Ariana and Patrick. I love the Brooklyn Bruisers in audio so much. With some funny scenes, some emotional moments and a little bit of suspense I really enjoyed this sports romance. He's found something he wants and he's all in. Together Patrick and Ari help each other with their internal dilemmas/fears and end up spending rather a lot of time together (including super sexy time), unfortunately for Patrick, Ari is not willing to jump into another relationship, he's not going to give up easily though. She's having enough trouble dealing with the fallout from her ex boyfriend who is not willing to leave her alone. Ari Bettini is the team's massage therapist, and having just come out of an abusive relationship she is not looking for love, not at all. Told in dual POV we meet Patrick O'Doul, the team captain and enforcer, who has no interest in getting tied up in a relationship, he's too busy enjoying his own company and coping with all the injuries that are associated with being the enforcer. Loved this 2nd book in the Brooklyn Bruisers series following the lives and loves of the Brooklyn Bruisers ice hockey team.
